OHS was formed on June 27^th 2005 following the ratification of the Pacific Island Trade Agreement. Registered under the governance of the  Secretariat, OHS’s charter is to formalize regional Treaties and Agreements in relation to the provisions of Health Services to the region.

 

Established as a self funded department, OHS income is primarily derived  from the provision of centralized purchasing of medical equipment and consumables, and distribution to the region via the tender process. OHS also administers the allocation of aid contributions in co-operation with organizations including Rotary and various religious groups. Income is also derived from the maintenance of a specialist and locum register and the administration of employment contracts for same.
